After a long wait to see whether the sometimes-resident Peregrine Falcon would be nesting, we have been given the go ahead to start taking bookings – albeit with a small caveat (see below) just in case any late nesting activity is spotted.
The Tours running from 9am to 3pm over the Vintage Festival on Saturday 18th May offer a very rare opportunity to take the 111 spiral steps to the top of the turrets on Northamptonshire’s tallest church spire. Although there is a break halfway up at the bell ringing chamber, the steps are steep with limited headroom in places so only persons who are in good health need consider taking the trip. Tours will last 30 minutes, cost will be £20 per adult and £10 per child (aged 8-17) and be led by knowledgeable volunteer guides who will give a fascinating insight into the history of the church, the tower and the recent repair works. Everyone who makes the journey up and down the tower will receive a certificate to say they have been there!
More information including our Online Booking system can be found at our Tower Tour Page >>>
As well as medical considerations, bookings are subject to this consideration re the wildlife:
** The tours are dependent on the nesting activities of a pair of Peregrine Falcons which feed regularly on the church battlements. If they nest, access to the battlements is prohibited by law as the nesting cannot be disturbed. We are advised that nesting can take place any time until the end of April so we are opening the Booking System with the proviso that the Tower Tour day will be moved to the Autumn if we are prohibited by nesting. All bookings made will remain valid. Should we have to re-arrange we will contact all who make bookings as soon as we are able. **
